A special trophy signed by actress Dame Emma Thompson

Gifted to Emma after shooting Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical (2022) written by Tim Michin, the trophy has been signed by Emma and donated especially to this auction. Amongst the photos, you'll find a recent photo of Emma, with the trophy, taken in October 2023. The trophy reads ‘England Hammer Throwing Championship 1959’ and was inspired by the trophy which features in Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical film, where Emma plays the role of Miss Trunchbull. The base of the trophy is signed by Emma.

Emma Thompson is one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and respected talents in acting and screenwriting. Thompson is the only artist thus far to have received an Academy Award for both acting (Howards End) and screenwriting (Sense and Sensibility). In June of 2018 she was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Thompson is best known for her roles on screen which last year, included BAFTA and Golden Globe nominated Good Luck To You Leo Grande, the film adaptation of Tim Minchin’s hit stage musical Matilda, based on the Roald Dahl classic novel, in which she plays the dreaded school headmistress, ‘Trunchbull’.

Thompson has made 72 films which include Sense and Sensibility, Howards End, The Remains of the Day, In the Name of the Father, Last Christmas, Late Night, King Lear, The Children Act, Love Actually, Saving Mr. Banks, Disney’s live action Beauty and the Beast, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Cruella and Nanny McPhee for which she also wrote the screenplays.

Television credits include the series Years & Years, Wit, Angels in America, Song of Lunch and more. For her roles in Tutti Frutti and Fortunes of War, she won her first BAFTA Award.

Thompson is also star of stage, having performed Sweeney Todd with Bryn Terfel and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, and a writer, having been commissioned to write the 24th, 25th and 26th tales in the existing collection of Peter Rabbit stories beginning in 2014, the only author since Beatrix Potter to do so.
