Own alt-J's Guitar!

This is a very rare chance to own a piece of alt-J’s history.
A black Squier Stratocaster (1996) guitar which originally belonged to alt-J keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton. It was used by the band to write songs during their time at Leeds University (2007-2011), and during the recording sessions for their debut album, 2012’s An Awesome Wave.
The guitar subsequently went on tour with the group, first as Gwil Sainsbury’s primary instrument, then as a backup guitar, during their inaugural world tour of 2012-2013.See photo of Gwil on stage with the guitar at an alt-J gig supporting Ghostpoet at the Norwich Waterfront back in March 2012. After winning the Mercury Prize in 2012 with their debut album An Awesome Wave, Joe Newman [vocals, guitar], Gus Unger-Hamilton [vocals, keyboards, bass] and Thom Sonny Green [drums, percussion] made the Grammy-nominated This Is All Yours (2014), Relaxer (2017) and The Dream (2022), alt-J’s fourth album. Along the way they plotted globe-trotting tours, sold out Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and the O2, amongst many others, and headlined almost any festival you care to mention.

• For this particular item, delivery costs are excluded from the final amount bid at auction. We will be in touch with you after the auction has closed to arrange payment of delivery charges that you will need to cover (costs are dependent on size, weight and delivery destination). 
• The item has been sourced directly from alt-J. See a recent photo of Gus with the guitar taken in November 2023. Please note this item does not come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
• The guitar comes in used and worn condition, complete with authentic rock and roll wear and tear, marks and scratches! See photo for evidence of condition. The guitar hasn't been played in a while and we cannot guarantee that it's in working order. It’s presented inside a new (generic brand) hard guitar case for protection. 
• Whilst we aim to deliver all of our physical items to prize winners before Christmas, this cannot necessarily be guaranteed. We accept no responsibility for items that are subject to delay due to postal strikes and courier delays around the Christmas period.
